Eighty percent of this safari is spent in the best national parks and reserves in Kenya and Tanzania, giving you awesome wildlife viewing opportunities and loads of action! It is a newer trip but a classic safari so bring lots of film.
This safari begins in the vast open grasslands of Masai Mara, which plays host to some of the greatest concentrations of wildlife in the world. Two extensive days of game viewing here ensures you have a great opportunity to experience fully this incredible region. From the Mara we travel to one of Kenya?s soda lakes - Lake Nakuru. The shallow alkaline lake that forms the centrepiece of Lake Nakuru National Park attracts millions of flamingos, which form a seething carpet of pink across the lakes surface. There is much more to the park than the lake and the area is particularly well known for its white rhino and leopard numbers. Contrastingly the first week of the safari comes to a close with Lake Naivasha, one of Kenya's Rift Valley's two freshwater lakes. Lake Naivasha is home to an incredible variety of bird species as well as hippos and plenty of game in the adjacent areas.
Leaving Kenya behind we travel south to Tanzania. Tanzania's two main drawcards are the celebrated grasslands of the Serengeti and the outstanding Ngorongoro Crater. Both are so well known they need little introduction. The Serengeti/Masai Mara eco-system is one of the largest in Africa, a massive region of some 15,000 square kilometres (about a quarter of the size of Tasmania and three times the size of Wales). It supports the largest concentration of plains game anywhere in the world, along with plenty of predators. Nearby, the ancient crater at Ngorongoro, measuring just 20 kilometres in diameter is the largest unbroken, intact, unflooded caldera (collapsed cone of a volcano) in the world. Often described as a "natural zoo" the crater offers outstanding opportunities for seeing a large variety of wildlife including the highly endangered black rhino. Slightly to the south, is the alkaline waters of Lake Manyara, where you can expect to see an interesting variety of migrational species during our game drive in the National Park. All in all, this trip offers a superb wildlife encounter, with opportunities along the way to meet the local Masai people.
