Attractions

Illawarra coastline has more than 17 magnificent surfing beaches, most of which are patrolled by lifesavers during the summer months. These beaches stretch from Lake Illawarra in the south to Bulli Beach in the north, and there are many secluded beaches in the Royal National Park, which offers riverside picnics, cliff top heathland walks, fantastic surfing beaches, rainforest mountain bike tracks, and great bushwalking. Wollongong has a huge array of activities and great facilities for all kinds of recreational pursuits. In addition to swimming and surfing there is snorkelling, scuba diving and spear fishing with many dive centres providing gear and lessons. The sheltered waters of Lake Illawarra are ideal for sailing, kayaking, canoeing, kite surfing near the mouth, fishing, windsurfing and waterskiing. The fishing in Wollongong is superb with excellent facilities and a wide variety of types and locations to choose from - beach, surf, rock, lake, estuary and near shore and offshore boat fishing.
