Tenterfield is known as the birth place of a nation and has many interests for the traveller including Bald Rock, Australia's largest exposed granite rock and the second largest rock in Australia. Sir Henry Parkes vision of a united Australia was presented in his famous Federation speech at the Tenterfield School of Arts on 24 October 1889 which led to the Federation of all Australian Colonies in 1901. Hence Tenterfield is recognised as the “Birthplace of our Nation”

Tenterfield is one of the country’s most significant historic settlements through the preservation of landmark buildings such as the School of Arts, Police Station & Goal, the Tenterfield Saddler, Railway Station and Stannum House. Colonial architecture contrasts with magnificent natural features including Bald Rock, Boonoo Boonoo Fall, Sundown & Girraween National Parks.

Bald Rock National Park features the largest exposed granite monolith in Australia rewarding bush walkers and climbers with an expansive panoramic view unequalled in the New England region. Add the mystique of Aboriginal lore and you have a town not to be missed.
