The Bears over the Mountain is located right in the heart of the delightful village of Geeveston - southern Tasmania - the gateway to the State's stunning Far South.

It is the perfect base for unwinding and exploring all the great attractions and scenery of Tasmania's Far South. We are ideally situated for visting the acclaimed Tahune Forest AirWalk, Eagle Hang Gliding, Hastings Caves and Thermal Pool and of course the magnificent Hartz Mountains.

Also take the time to stroll around Geeveston and be sure to visit the Forest and Heritage Centre - just a short stroll from The Bears.

While staying with us why not indulge and excite your taste buds with a sensational dinner in our recent addition, The Contented Bear, a fully licensed restaurant!! Enjoy a sumptuous evening meal from the a La Carte menu. Continental or cooked breakfast is served in The Bears private dining room.


We specialise in Gluten Free and special dietry needs are catered for including Coeliacs, Vegetarian, Vegan, Dairy intolerant etc., are catered for by your personal chef and host.
Choose from a modern Australian menu all prepared with as much fresh and local produce as the seasons permit. We are fully licensed with a range of Tasmanian and Australian mainland wines and beers.

We are a pet (and bear of course!) friendly accommodation establishment...and remember - dont leave your bear at home - bring him along for a holiday as well! We can accommodate either inside or out depending on your Pet's wishes. For both indoors or outdoors we have bedding/bowls etc, all Pets are welcomed with 'treats' & are fussed & welcomed.

A few metres away we have a large common for that big burst of energy with wonderful big trees, the river for an additional doggy dip - all great exercise for humans & pets!!
