About

Circa 1862 Tasmanian farmhouse beautifully restored offering guests private, affordable Bed and Breakfast or Self Contained accommodation located in the magnificent Derwent Valley Southern Tasmania.

The property features lovely gardens and a 1.6 km walking track along our creek and around our ponds specially designed to view platypus and birds in the wild (over 30 types in summer). Staying at Hamlet Downs Country Accommodation you are guaranteed to leave totally refreshed and rested after experiencing our peaceful idyllic surroundings.

We offer Bed and Breakfast (cooked breakfast) but also offer the discerning traveller the complete dinner, bed and breakfast package. For something completely different, try our Greek dishes or better still have a Greek Feast with 3 courses of delicious authentic Mediterranean cuisine. Minimum of 2 persons and 24 hours notice required to prepare these special dishes.

For guests wanting Self Contained, we can provide full breakfast provisions if required.

There are no internal shared facilities and each group enjoys their own private suite with separate lounge and dining areas for each suite.

Attractions

We are the perfect place to use as a base to explore our amazing Tyenna region and southern Tasmania. Only 10 minutes drive from Mt Field National Park which offers an extremely diverse range of attractions, like the world famous Russell Falls, Lake Dobson and the Tarn shelf. Also close by is the South West World Heritage area featuring Lake Pedder. The Styx valley is also near by and is the home of the worlds tallest hardwood trees.

We are just 3 minutes from Southern Tasmania's premier trout fishing location the Tyenna river renowned for the size and quality of the fish caught. Excellent lake fishing can be had at Lake Pedder. Lake Meadowbank boasts Atlantic salmon as well as Rainbow, Brown and Brook trout, making it one of Southern Tasmania's best freshwater fishing locations just 20 minutes from us.

For travellers interested in our local history we are close to the towns of Hamilton, New Norfolk and Bothwell with their many historic buildings including Glen Clyde House. New Norfolk is the largest town in the Derwent Valley commonly known as Southern Tasmania's Country Capital. We are only 1 hour drive from Hobart Tasmania's capital. Here you can take a walk around historic Battery Point, the Hobart waterfront area with its many fine restaurants, the Maritime Museum, Cascade Brewery, Botanical Gardens, Cadbury's Chocolate Factory,take a drive to the summit of Mt Wellington for spectacular views. On Saturday mornings take in Salamanca markets which Hobart is renowned for.

Cancellations within 48 hours of stay incur a fee. Cancellations on day of stay or where clients do not arrive, incur whole tariff. Any refunds are net of fees and other costs incurred by Hamlet Downs.

Rate shown for 1 or 2 adults. Extra persons payable on arrival. 2 Rooms, one with queen sized bed and the other has 2 single beds. A bathroom is shared by these two rooms only. Views to the garden. Also enjoys private lounge and dining area with log fire. This room can not be booked at the same time as the Self Contained facility.

King Bedroom

Room with king sized bed and ensuite bathroom (3/4 bath). Great views to the gardens, fields and ponds. Also enjoys private lounge and dining area with separate entrance. Optional foldout bed for 2.

Queen Ensuite

Room with queen sized bed and ensuite bathroom. Views to the garden. Also enjoys private lounge and dining area with log fire. This room can not be booked at the same time as the Self Contained facility.

Self Contained Facility

Rate shown for 1 or 2 adults in 1 room. Extra persons payable on arrival. 3 Bedrooms, one with queen sized bed and ensuite bathroom, another with a queen sized bed and the third with 2 single beds. The last two rooms share a bathroom. Views to the lovely garden. Also enjoys private lounge and dining area with log fire. As this facility is comprised of the "2 rooms with shared bathroom" and the "Queen ensuite", those room types can not be booked at the same time as the S/C facility.
