The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel is an independent property featuring accommodation in the four star range. Winner of the 2003 Australian Hotels Association Award for Superior Accommodation, we are conveniently located in Sullivans Cove, only one block from Hobarts famous waterfront and just two blocks from Hobarts C.B.D. Opened in February 1997, the original 118 room project was cleverly built incorporating the façade of an original wool storage facility and many heritage-listed design features were preserved. Completed in September 2001, the development of the second stage of The Old Woolstore has seen the addition of 124 further rooms, a new reception area and associated guest facilities. The emphasis of the experience offered is friendly, relaxed service and spacious, functional accommodation and meeting facilities.

The Old Woolstore now consists of a total of 242 hotel rooms, studio apartments, one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments and executive spa apartments. This flexible range of inventory offers something for just about all visitors exploring or working in Hobart. The provision of self-contained, fully serviced apartment-style accommodation lends itself to those staying for extend periods, travelling in a group and those who are conscious of cost. Hotel rooms and studio apartments are ideal for couples or individuals.

Our meeting and conference facilities are purpose built and include the latest in audio-visual presentation technology, all at the touch of a button. Unique to Hobart, The Woolstore Theatrette has seating for 100 people in comfort and style. Four other function rooms are also available, catering for groups of up to 180 people.

Attractions

The oldest casino in Australia, Wrest Point, offers different gambling areas, bars and a nightclub. Located on the 17th floor of the building is the Revolving Restaurant and Lounge. Taking an hour to complete a circle the floor length windows provide a spectacular view of Hobart. You may choose to board a ferry at Hobart’s waterfront for the journey down and then catch a bus back or take a bus both ways.

Ever wondered what the first view of Port Arthur was like for the convicts and first settlers? Ever wanted to experience the rugged coastline of Tasmania and view the ruins of the penal colony? Depart Hobart in the morning via ferry and sail down to Port Arthur and enter the site using the same shipping channels of the first fleet. You will then have the opportunity to tour the historic site and experience the lives of Tasmania’s first settlers before boarding the bus for the trip home (something most convicts could never do).

Shop Shop and Shop!!! Hobart has the largest outdoor market in the Southern Hemisphere. Operating Saturdays from 9am to 2.30pm the Salamanca Market offers a wide range of arts, crafts and gifts.

Tasmania is fast developing as one of the premier winemaking regions in the world. Meadowbank Estate and Moorilla Estate are two leaders in this field. Meadowbank Estate offers stunning tasting, restaurant and art gallery facilities with sweeping rural and water views set amidst the magic and romance of a flourishing vineyard. Moorilla Estate is among the oldest in Tasmania and can be visited via a leisurely cruise on the Derwent River.

Enjoy some of the most stunning views of southern Tasmania from the top of Mount Wellington.

Take a your of Australia’s oldest Brewery, “Cascade” and the women’s prison which was the inspirations for Bryce Courtney’s “Potato Factory”.

Why not stop in at Battery Point or Salamanca to enjoy a warming coffee in one of the many cafes.

Cruise the Derwent River viewing some of Tasmania’s major industries including Incat - the maker of world-class fast catamarans, before heading to Cadbury’s – the home of chocolate. Here you will spend an hour touring the factory and taste testing the chocolates. Once you have decided on your favourites you can purchase these at the seconds shop before boarding a bus back to Hobart.

Hastings Caves and Thermal Pools are in the heart of the forest in the Huon Valley. They are one of the world’s great dolomite caves and the pool is fed by pure spring water maintained by nature at 28oc year round - an ideal spot for an Aussie BBQ lunch and swim. On the way down to the caves you can experience the history of Tasmania’s forests at the Geeveston Forest and Heritage Centre and Tahune Forest AirWalk.
